The Village of Burr Ridge is an affluent Chicago suburb in the gently rolling hills and rich forests of Illinois.  With Flagg Creek, a tributary of the Des Plaines River, flowing beside colorful manicured landscapes during the summer months, Burr Ridge real estate is pretty as a picture.  Ideally situated at the intersection of the Tri-State Tollway and the Stevenson Expressway, homes in Burr Ridge are easily accessible to Chicago’s Loop and airports.  In addition to its convenient location, residents have access to some of the best private and public schools in Illinois.

A scenic drive through Burr Ridge is divided between Cook and DuPage County real estate, with County Line Road as the dividing line.  Large Burr Ridge estate homes in Hinsdale Countryside, Burr Ridge Club and the gated Ambriance are sometimes perched on land once used in a very different way:  as a prison farm, a pig farm, a scout camp or an experimental farm.  These fine homes in Burr Ridge on generous lots are perfect for a well-to-do, hard working populace.

Additionally, upscale townhouses in Burr Ridge and manor home communities are available and convenient just off I-55.  Distinguished condominiums in lovely Burr Ridge neighborhoods as well as houses for sale in neighboring Darien, Hinsdale, Indian Head Park, La Grange, Western Springs, and Willowbrook offer options for everyone.

Once the stomping grounds of the Sioux, Pottawattamie, Ottawa and Chippewa Indians as well as large melting glaciers on the Valparaiso moraine, the gorgeous terrain is now treasured by over 11,000 residents.  In 1917, the International Harvester Company purchased 414 acres here where it tested the world's first all-purpose tractor, the Farmall.  And in 1956, the small residential area incorporated as the Village of Harvester.  Later the Burr Ridge Estates (once a dairy) were annexed and the name changed to honor the majestic bur oak trees on a nearby ridge.

Residents and leaders cooperate to improve, protect, and preserve these natural resources that define the Village.  With the goal of preserving the hallmark woodlands, ponds and wetlands, while permitting orderly and balanced low-density growth, large tracts of open farmland and woodlands have been transformed into a 7-square-mile planned community.

Proximity to Oak Brook Shopping Center adds further appeal.  Local shopping and tastefully designed office parks blend into the natural setting, attracting both residents and valued members of the business community.  In fact, the well-balanced mix of the business and residential communities has produced a healthy corporate fund and one of the lowest municipal tax rates in the region.  In 1997, the Village was recognized as one of the 300 wealthiest communities in America.  The median income for a household was $129,507, and the median income for a family $151,126.

It also offers a wealth of outdoor and indoor recreational activities, including jogging paths, bike paths, tennis courts, fishing ponds, fitness centers, aquatic facilities, and golf courses.  Taking the bur oak leaf as its emblem and  “A Very Special Place” as its unofficial slogan, the Village celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 1976 with the publishing of a small book reflecting the pride of the area.
